The story can now be told!

After the Junior (or was
it Senior) Prom, Jim Smith, Fred Fincham, Russ Carmack and I took
off for California – just to say we did. We made it to Crescent City, but
not before spending most of the night in Roseburg, Oregon with car
trouble. Roseburg turned out to be quite an adventure, but I’ll leave
that part of the story for another time (it has nothing to do with the
photo above; they’re just friends!). |

The cost to repair the
car was more than any of us had, so we wound up promising to send money
when we got home. Since it was Jim’s car, the bills kept coming to his
house for months. Jim told us later that he had sent a letter the gas
station, signing his mother’s name, telling them that he had died in an
auto accident and that she wouldn’t be responsible for his debts. |

Thanks to Russ’
Hasselblad camera, these shots are the only remaining evidence of the
trip. Apparently, he was the only one who knew how to use a camera, since
there’s no picture of him here!
